![]() Bruce A. Reitz, professor and chair of cardiovascular surgery, chats with Adam Vasser, 14, of Los Altos, who was allowed to attend the transplant service's annual reunion on Dec. 10 even though he hadn't had his transplant yet. Vasser, who suffers from idiopathic cardiomyopathy, didn't have long to wait in the pediatric ICU. He became Stanford's 905th heart transplant patient the following day. He was reported doing well in late December. Stanford began transplanting hearts in January 1968. In addition to hearts, the service has performed nearly 300 heart-lung and lung-only transplants. |
