Medical Staff Elections Under Way

Raymond Gaeta, associate professor of anesthesia and director of the Stanford Pain Management Center, and John Wachtel, an obstetrician who practices at Menlo Medical Clinic, are candidates for vice president of the Stanford Hospital and Clinics medical staff.

Ballots were to be mailed to eligible voting members of the medical staff in August, and results are expected to be announced at or before the medical staff meeting, said Linda Durkin, medical staff governance coordinator.

Winner of the vice presidential election will become president-elect to succeed Martin I. Bronk, who is scheduled to begin a two-year term in September. (See accompanying story.)

Durkin said voting staff members will also choose three medical board members-at-large from a field of six candidates.

The at-large candidates include Rodney Anderson, faculty urologist; John Barry, faculty psychiatrist; Susan Hoffman, a Palo Alto internist; Gail Lebovic, a Palo Alto surgeon; Rebecca Smith-Coggins, a faculty emergency medicine specialist; and Kelly Traver, an internist at Menlo Medical Clinic.

Ballots will provide a write-in option for both vice president and members-at-large, Durkin said.
