Lane Library hosts event celebrating
National Doctors Day

TIn appreciation of Stanford physicians' commitment to quality patient care, excellence in medical education and continuing advancements in medical research and treatment, Lane Medical Library will celebrate National Doctors Day on March 27 in Fairchild Auditorium. That morning from 7:30 to 9:15 a.m., Lane librarians will demonstrate new PDA and wireless technologies, conduct free literature searches and serve refreshments.

The origins of National Doctors Day go back to 1933 when a group of physicians' spouses in Winder, Ga., chose the day to commemorate the anniversary of the first administration of anesthesia almost a century earlier by a local Georgia physician. In 1991, President George Bush signed an executive order designating March 30 as an official day of recognition for physicians. The full text of that order can be viewed at http://envirotext.eh.doe.gov/data/eos/bush/19910221b.html.
