Chief of Staff Bryan D. Bohman is expected to select a committee to pick nominees for at-large positions on the Medical Executive Committee following an unprecedented show of interest in filling two open positions.

The committee is expected to narrow the list of candidates to four or five contenders, said Bohman. Some 27 potential candidates were identified via colleagues, Medical Staff leadership and self-nominations in time for a July 3 nominating deadline, said Debra Green, director of medical staff services. At-large members serve three year terms.

In addition to the at-large members, MEC membership includes faculty chiefs of service, as well as similar ex officio members and officers. The five at-large members serve three-year terms on a rotating election schedule. Two members will be selected this year and three in 2010, according to the bylaws.

The at-large posts are open to all active medical staff members, both faculty and community physicians.
