Patient flow and physician involvement

Ensuring that physicians get the right information at the right time when Stanford Hospital is at high capacity is being addressed by two complementary initiatives that involve a close partnership with physicians.

The SHC Crowding Prevention and Response Plan was implemented in July 2011 to help improve capacity issues and overall patient flow. Team Care is another program that aims to improve the patient experience throughout the stay, from admission through discharge, taking into account the multiple care transitions that occur during that time, said Marlena Kane, director of business development for Patient Care Services and a co-leader of the Crowding Plan and Team Care (Gretchen Brown, Manager, Clinical Inpatient Access, co-led the Crowding Plan). Medical Staff Update is going digital

Medical Staff Update is changing. We’re going green. Beginning in April, you will receive a newly designed electronic Medical Staff Update in your inbox. The March 2012 Update is the last issue that will be printed.

The new Update will include four features every month that showcase the very best work going on inside Stanford Hospital, including medical innovations, advances in care delivery, safety and quality, professional achievements, and periodic columns from the Chief of Staff and other medical and administrative leaders. It will also have a section dedicated to medical staff news and practice updates as well as a people column that will provide the latest news about appointments, awards and promotions.

In addition, the Medical Staff will also be unveiling a new private Facebook page and a Chief of Staff Twitter account for Medical Staff members only. More information will come on both of these social media initiatives.
