1997 Malinda S. Mitchell Award for Service Quality

The Malinda S. Mitchell Award is given each year to recognize a department or unit that
demonstrates exceptional quality in the delivery of services and care to patients, to physicians,
to other departments, or to others that we serve inside or outside our organization. The Award
criteria are in three areas;
- Service to clients which is a demonstration of exceeding their expectations, not just meeting
them and a commitment to continuously improve in order to produce better and better outcomes
- Staff involvement and satisfaction which is demonstrated by evidence of participation and
engagement of staff in departmental plans to improve and staff that are proud of their accomplishments
- Leadership both of the departmental managers and staff in collaborative team efforts to improve
services.
To evaluate the applicants for the award, patients, physicians, staff and other departments are surveyed.
"This is a particularly important award, because it recognizes and rewards those who help SHS meet
its most important goal- to continually improve the quality of care and services delivered at Stanford."
