Hoover Pavilion, 211 Quarry Road / Farquhar Room, 4th floor : Stanford, CA

Melanoma is the most rapidly rising cancer in incidence and mortality, particularly in middle-aged and older men. Primary prevention strategies have typically involved public education to reduce excessive ultraviolet exposure, despite controversies over sunscreen effectiveness and potential benefits of vitamin D. Secondary prevention may have the greatest impact on melanoma mortality, and novel strategies to improve early detection in high-risk groups will be discussed
