Special Seminar in Microbiology & Immunology "Master microbial manipulators: How bacteria shape host and microbial evolution"

Mar 05, 2019 (Tue) | 1:30 PM -2:30 PM
Munzer Auditorium/Beckman Center : Stanford, CA

Bacteria can profoundly impact the physiology and evolution of the organisms around them. This includes fundamental features of eukaryotic biology, such as sex, multicellularity, and the evolution of host immune systems. Bacteria also shape the lives of other bacterial species in their microbial communities. Here I’ll describe the discovery of a new mechanism of inter-bacterial warfare, share insights into critical bacterial-driven eukaryotic processes, and present a new model system for studying host-microbe co-evolution.
