The Clinical Laboratories provide
services for a highly diverse population of all age groups
including Stanford Hospital and Clinics (SHC) and Lucile Packard
Children's Hospital and Clinics (LPCH) inpatients, outpatients
and outreach patients. This includes services for the phlebotomy,
handling, testing and interpreting of tests in neonates and
children, Employee Health, Cowell Student Health, Menlo Clinic,
Coastside Clinic, research, clinical trials, clinic outpatients,
physician office patients, other hospitals, industrial accounts,
biotechnology companies and community organizations. The Laboratories
perform testing on blood, body fluids, tissue and other specimens
in the areas of hematology and hematopathology, flow cytometry,
coagulation, chemistry, immunology, serology, molecular diagnostics,
cytogenetics, bacteriology and antibiotic susceptibility,
mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, point
of care testing and blood transfusion-related services for
SHC and LPCH. These services are provided 24 hours per day,
7 days per week, 365 days per year.

The Clinical Laboratory at the Veterans Administration Palo
Alto Health Care System is a full service (24 hour/ 7 day
per week) laboratory performing over 2 million routine and
specialty tests on site annually. Laboratory sections include
Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular
Pathology, Point of Care, Tech Lab Support and Transfusion
Services as well as a variety of subspecialties under each
section. The VAPAHCS Clinical Lab also provides testing and
phlebotomy services at two VAPAHCS hospital divisions (Livermore
and Menlo Park) and at six community based outpatient clinics
(Capitola, Monterey, Modesto, San Jose, Stockton and Sonora).
In addition, VAPAHCS serves as a Molecular Pathology reference
laboratory for other Veterans Administration facilities.
