Dr. Jamie M. Zeitzer
Dr. Zeitzer is a post-doctoral fellow in the Center for Narcolepsy. Dr. Zeitzer received his bachelors degree in Biology from Vassar College and his Ph.D. in neurobiology from Harvard University. He did his thesis work in the laboratory of Dr. Charles A. Czeisler on the physiologic effects of light on the human circadian timing system, the physiology of melatonin, and the endocrinologic effects of spinal cord injury. Dr. Zeitzer spent two years as a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Charles L. Wilson at UCLA, examining the changes in neuromodulators in the human brain during sleep and sleep deprivation. Dr. Zeitzer's current work involves the examination of the normal role of hypocretin in human and non-human primate physiology. A greater understanding of the normal physiology of the hypocretin system will not only broaden our knowledge about how wakefulness is regulated, but it may lead to more targetted pharmacotherapies for individuals who lack normal hypocretin production (narcoleptics).
