Faculty Research Description
Novel therapies for treating epilepsy, incuding an NIH and FDA-approved study of electrical brain stimulation for epilepsy. Research interests include development of methods to detect seizures via brainwave changes and automatically apply drugs to the part of the brain responsible for seizures. Research is being done on mechanisms of epilepsies, including what causes young brain to seize with fever. Studies are done intermittently on new antiepileptic medications. Psychosocial problems of people with epilepsy are of concern to the Stanford Epilepsy Center, and we have done research on such issues as reasonable driving limitations for people with seizures.
