Publication Guidance
At the time of publication, investigators should exercise careful judgment when disclosing information about student athletes as research participants. As with all other research populations, it is imperative to maintain the privacy of student athletes as research participants. The unique challenge with student athletes in research is that the identification of just their sport can significantly jeopardize the athletes’ anonymity when combined with publicly available team rosters. As such, it is the responsibility of the investigator to include an appropriate level of detail in publications that does not violate student athlete privacy.
