Centre for Integrative Biology of Non-Communicable Diseases (CIBN)

A joint proposal by Dr. Sanjay Malhotra, Department of Radiation Oncology at Stanford University, USA and Dr. Kanury Rao of the Drug Discovery Research Center (DDRC), Translational Health Science and Technology Institute, Faridabad, India has been awarded two years of financial support by the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF), to establish the Centre for Integrative Biology of Non-Communicable Diseases (CIBN). The goal for this center will be to combine theoretical and experimental approaches to improve resolution of the Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) networks to capture quantitative modulations in topology that occur in specific diseases. Broadly therefore, the aim is to extract the dynamical network that captures initiation, progression, and development of metabolic syndrome (MetS); and exploit this data for the purposes of vulnerable target identification and subsequent development of new therapies/drugs.

Cardiovascular Awards Institute

Dr. Sanjay Malhotra, PhD, and Dr. Nazish Sayed, MD, PhD,  have been awarded a seed grant from the Cardiovascular Awards Institute and Stanford Child Health Research institute for a  research project awarded to help improve both diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Dr. Malhotra and Dr. Sayed’s project, “ Stem-cell based mechanistic study of FDA-approved drugs for repurposing of their drug actions” was chosen for funding to help aid in the potential creation of new, fundamental knowledge and to translate cardiovascular research form the laboratory to the patient.
