***Internal Stanford Funding Opportunity***

Internal Deadline:   Oct. 30, 2009
(see letter of intent procedure below)

Amount of Funding:  $25,000 for one year with the possibility of a single competitive renewal. Four applications will be selected and included in a P30 NIH application.
The funding for the pilot projects is contingent on a successful NIDDK application for Stanford to become a Nutrition Obesity Research Center (see below).

Program:
Purpose of the NORC Pilot/Feasibility Program:
One component of the NIDDK NORC application will be a Pilot/Feasibility program to fund promising research that is likely to yield useful and important preliminary findings that can then be leveraged for future, larger-scale investigations.

Using NORC Core resources to maximize/enhance pilot study funding:
Applicants are encouraged to maximize the value of the pilot funding by making use of resources that will be offered by the NORC. Those resources extend across a spectrum that includes:
-Basic science (e.g., adipose tissue, proteomics)
-Clinical science (e.g., human trials, tissue banking)
-Population science (e.g., statistical support, community outreach/dissemination).
Further information regarding the Cores can be obtained from the contact person below.

Eligibility:
Stanford faculty with PI eligibility
Faculty from any school in the University are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to those in the early stages of their career, and to established investigators who have recently shifted the emphasis of their research to the areas of nutrition and/or obesity.

Topics for investigation:
Appropriate topics for submission must be clearly related to obesity or nutrition, Topics/approaches can range anywhere from bench, to bedside, to community.
