CHRI Faculty Scholar Award

Internal funding opportunity for Stanford assistant professors or early associate professors with University Tenure Line (UTL) and Medical Center Line (MCL) faculty appointments in clinical departments whose research involves child health or the training of child health researchers (see additional eligibility guidelines).

Amount of funding: $100,000 per year for 5 years

Eligibility:
CHRI Faculty Scholars must hold a doctoral degree: M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./Ph.D. degree or their equivalents and


Purpose:
The CHRI Faculty Scholar Program will provide funds first for the scholar's remuneration and benefits and second to support research and other costs of the faculty member such that there shall be demonstrable, significant and meritorious scholarship/research activities related to innovation in child health.

Type of research
Research must be primarily related to child health. Child refers to the expectant mother, embryo, fetus, infant, child and adolescent. All areas of research are eligible: basic, translational, clinical research, epidemiology/statistics, informatics, health services, or health policy.

1) Cover page
Title of this RFA: 2014 CHRI Faculty Scholar Award
Title of your project
PI: Name, title, department, address, phone and email address

2) Letter of Nomination printed on your department's letterhead and signed by your Clinical Department Chair. (This should be from the department where you have your primary School of Medicine academic appointment). The Chair’s letter will outline the nominee's:
-current time commitments to clinical, education, research and administration
-time commitment to clinical, education, research and administration should he/she be successful in their application to become a CHRI Faculty Scholar.

*If the Chair serves on the Faculty Scholar adjudication committee, the applicant will be nominated by their Division Chief.

3) Personal Statement (one page): Using Arial 10 font or larger. Describe how the award will both enhance their career development and the Strategic Plan and Strategic Goals of the LPCH and the School of Medicine as it relates to innovation in child health.

4) Research Proposal (maximum of 4 pages of text, not including references, and no more than 5 additional pages of attachments or appendices. Use Arial 10 font or larger and place the applicant's name on every page along with the page number.
The proposal should contain a concise description of the project aims, hypothesis, background, preliminary studies (if available), overall design and methods and potential pitfalls and a 5-year budget. For human-based studies there should also be a brief description of sample size and plan for statistical analyses of the results.

5) A Statement That:
--in publications arising from this support they will indicate, when possible, that they were a Child Health Research Institute at Stanford <   > Faculty Scholar
-they will use the award title as a part of their formal signature block, e.g.:
NAME
<    >  Endowed Faculty Scholar

--they will comply with all reporting requirements both during and following the completion of this award
