FORM to Request Accces to SPIDERS/SPIRES


For School of Medicine Staff only:
SPIDERS/SPIRES Prism Access Form

Computer Set up (Secure CRT)- PC
IT staff are now using "Stanford Tools" when setting up new computers. The "Stanford Tools" contain Secure CRT, a replacement for the PC and MAC leland. The following instructions will enable the user to access SPIDERS/SPIRES via a Secure CRT icon on their desktop.


1) Download Samson for Windows 5.12 Software
Go Essential Stanford Software (ESS) "Old version" webpage
Scroll down that page to the section called "Terminal Emulation".
Click on "Download now" under Samson for Windows 5.12 (You must have the Samson program installed before you can set up SPIRES.)
     
2) Download SPIRES session installer for Samson
Once you've downloaded the Samson program, go back to the same webpage (ESS "old version) and click on "download now" under Spires Session Installer for Samson ( you're downloading just the installer to your desktop at this step).

3) Your IT person will then need to launch Secure CRT and then follow the technical instructions provided at the IT website.

1) Download Samson for Macintosh 5.2.1 Software
Go Essential Stanford Software (ESS)-Macintosh "Old version" webpage
Scroll down that page to the section called "Terminal Emulation (OS X) ".
Click on "Download now" under Samson for Windows 5.2.1 (You must have the
Samson program installed before you can set up SPIRES.)

2) Download SPIRES session installer for Macintosh
 Once you've downloaded the Samson program, go back to the same webpage (ESS "old version) and click on "download now" under Spires Session Installer for Samson ( you're downloading just the installer to your desktop at this step).

3) Your IT person will then need to follow the technical instructions for various settings (fonts, color, formatting) provided at the IT website.

Obtaining a PIN number: Help SU

Once you have submitted your SPIRES access forms to Sonia Barragan and you receive confirmation from her that you've been given SPIDERS/SPIRES access then:
     
Submit a Help SU ticket
     Request category Administrative applications
     Request type SPIDERS
     Request description: I need a PIN number to complete my access to SPIDERS/SPIRES.

Someone from ITSS will send you your PIN number. If you implace your PIN number you will need to submit another Help SU.


Next Steps--After you get your PIN number
Launch SPIDERS/spires
A white window will appear with a prompt containing your likely sunet ID. After the prompt, simply type the word "prism" then click on the enter key.
Opposite the prompt of the the next page type "sel spo pro" which will take you a screen which requires that you enter your PIN number. Type your PIN number then click on the enter key.
It will take you to the Sponsored Projects section.
One of the keys you will utilize the most at the bottom of this section is F3 Find. If your F3 function key does not work on your keyboard, simply type the word "Find". You'll be provided with several options. You can select "3" (for PI) and "7" (for sponsor) to narrow the search for example. If you find a specific sponsored projects you can also enter "display budget" (dis bud) to view additonal details.
