Ahmed El Kaffas, PhD, Feliks Kogan, PhD, and Adam Wang, PhD, named recipients of NIH NIBIB Trailblazer R21 Award.

This Trailblazer Award is an opportunity for NIH-defined New and Early Stage Investigators to pursue research programs of high interest to the NIBIB that integrate engineering and the physical sciences with the life and/or biomedical sciences. A Trailblazer project may be exploratory, developmental, proof of concept, or high risk-high impact, and may be technology design-directed, discovery-driven, or hypothesis-driven. Importantly, applicants must propose research approaches for which there are minimal or no preliminary data.

Here are the awarded projects:

Ahmed El Kaffas, PhD: Development of Molecular Microbubble Probes and Ultrasound-Guidance in Immunotherapeutic Strategies (R21-EB029046-01)

Feliks Kogan, PhD: Assessment of Bone Metabolism After Localized Mechanical Loading (R21-EB030180-01)

Adam Wang, PhD: Single-Shot Quantitative X-Ray Imaging for Interventional Procedures (R21-EB03008001)
