Behavioral Sleep Medicine Fellowships
There are two postdoctoral fellowships in Behavioral Sleep Medicine that offer training in cognitive behavioral treatments for sleep disorders. One is based in the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences building on the Stanford University campus and the other at the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center in Redwood City. Both Fellowships are accredited by the Society for Behavioral Sleep Medicine and enable trainees to fulfill eligibility requirements for the Diplomate in Behavioral Sleep Medicine exam. Applicants can learn more about each track at their respective websites and may apply to either one or both.
Clinical Training
Trainees provide approximately 20 hours per week of direct clinical services, receive 3-5 hours of didactic experience, and have opportunities to be involved in research and other professional activities. The majority of cases will be adults with insomnia, many with co-existing psychiatric and/or medical conditions. Additionally, trainees can obtain experience in the assessment and treatment of other sleep disorders, including cognitive behavioral approaches to improve CPAP adherence, treatment of circadian rhythm disorders, and parasomnias, as well as the treatment of pediatric sleep problems.
