Research InterestDr. Robinson focuses on "solution-oriented" research, developing and evaluating effective health promotion and disease prevention interventions for children and adolescents. His research is mostly experimental, conducting school-, family- and community-based randomized controlled trials to test theory-driven behavioral, social and environmental interventions to prevent obesity, improve nutrition, increase physical activity, reduce smoking, and study the effects of children's television use.

Clinical Focus- Immunology and Rheumatology
- Rheumatology
Research InterestOur lab studies the molecular mechanisms of and develops therapies to treat autoimmune and rheumatic diseases, with a focus on rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and osteoarthritis. The overriding objectives of our laboratory are: 1. To investigate the mechanisms underlying autoimmune diseases. 2. To develop diagnostics and therapeutics for autoimmune diseases. 3. To investigate the role of inflammation in osteoarthritis.

Research InterestWe are working to elucidate the biochemical and cell biological principles that govern signaling pathways that sit at the intersection between developmental biology and cancer. Our toolkit combines bulk biochemical techniques, such as cell-free reconstitution, with microscopy using novel optical probes to study the dynamics of signal propagation in cells. We strive to develop novel strategies for the manipulation of these pathways for cancer therapies and applications in regenerative medicine.

Research InterestOur laboratory examines apoptotic and cell cycle pathways in cancer and lung disease. We have identified a novel cell cycle protein which regulates cell cycle progression in immune cells and the lung. We are also studying signaling pathways that regulate cancer cell growth and metastasis.

Clinical Focus- Internal Medicine
- Hypertension
Research InterestQuality improvement efforts seek to make medical care the best it can be rather than merely good enough to avoid censure. Focus on improving the average performance usually produces more net benefit than eliminating outliers, often by simplification, standardization, and specification. We have worked with electronic medication monitors, clinical databases, and computerized order entry systems for better clinical outcomes and trained clinicians for professionalism and accountability.

Research InterestWe have an active collaborative project examining basic and clinical aspects of non-tuberculous mycobacterial lung infection in non-immune compromised adults. Studies have examined possible cellular immune mechanisms for increased susceptibility to these infections, and are also investigating aspects of optimal diagnosis and treatment. In addition, a clinical and translational research program is investigating the causes and genetic factors underlying the evolution of bronchiectasis.
