Research InterestI am a clinical and health services investigator whose primary interest is in improving the quality of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) care among older adults. Our previous and current work aims to describe outcomes (especially geriatric outcomes) in older patients and to compare the effectiveness of different ESRD management strategies on these outcomes. We use a variety of study designs and populations to address questions of interest in this area.

Research InterestMy research focuses on evaluation of the efficacy of various psychosocial intervention programs to reduce distress in family caregivers of older adult relatives with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. These programs assess impact on a variety of physiological & psychological variables such as: cortisol level, depression, & anxiety. They are conducted with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and lingusitic backgrounds and are funded by the NIA & the Alzheimer's Assn.

Research InterestOur primary interests are in the molecular underpinnings of vascular disease as well as assessing disease risk. In addition to targeted investigation of specific signaling molecules, we utilize global genomic analysis to identify gene expression networks and regulatory units. We are particularly interested in the role of microRNAs in gene expression pathways associated with disease.

Research InterestDr. Turakhia's research program aims to improve the treatment of heart rhythm disorders by understanding system- and patient-level variation of arrhythmia treatment and their relationship to outcomes. He is principal investigator of the The Retrospective Evaluation and Assessment of Atrial Fibrillation study (TREAT-AF). With 400,000 patients, TREAT-AF will serve as the largest known research cohort of patients with Atrial Fibrillation.
