Research InterestOur laboratory focuses on two interrelated projects: (1) assessment of glioma development within the framework of the multistage model of carcinogenesis through utilization of the rodent model of ENU neurocarcinogenesis; and (2) assessment of stem cell specification and pluripotency using an embryonic stem cell model system in which neural differentiation is induced.

Research InterestThe Reijo Pera Laboratory is focused on pluripotent stem cells and regenerative medicine with an emphasis on understanding key cell fate decisions in early human development. In particular, we examine early events such as the generation of pluripotent stem cells, somatic and germ cell lineages and pathologies that arise in development.

Academic Appointments Professor, Medicine - Infectious Diseases
Member, Stanford Cancer Institute
Member, Bio-X
Professor, Microbiology & Immunology
Clinical Focus- Infectious Disease
Research InterestMy investigative program focuses on human-microbe interactions and human microbial ecology, and primarily concerns the ecology of human indigenous microbial communities; a secondary interest concerns the classification of humans with systemic infectious diseases, based on features of genome-wide gene transcript abundance patterns and pther aspects of the host response.

Research InterestDr. Reynolds directs the environmental research group at CPIC, with primary research interests in the environmental influences in the etiology of breast cancer and cancers in children. She has also conducted research in the role of second hand smoking in the development of cancers of the lung, breast and colon.

Research InterestDr. Robinson focuses on "solution-oriented" research, developing and evaluating effective health promotion and disease prevention interventions for children and adolescents. His research is mostly experimental, conducting school-, family- and community-based randomized controlled trials to test theory-driven behavioral, social and environmental interventions to prevent obesity, improve nutrition, increase physical activity, reduce smoking, and study the effects of children's television use.

Assistant Professor (By courtesy), Biochemistry
Clinical Focus- Cancer
- Medical Oncology
Research InterestWe are working to elucidate the biochemical and cell biological principles that govern signaling pathways that sit at the intersection between developmental biology and cancer. Our toolkit combines bulk biochemical techniques, such as cell-free reconstitution, with microscopy using novel optical probes to study the dynamics of signal propagation in cells. We strive to develop novel strategies for the manipulation of these pathways for cancer therapies and applications in regenerative medicine.
-
Academic Appointments Associate Professor, Medicine - Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine
Member, Bio-X
Member, Stanford Cancer Institute
Clinical Focus- Pulmonology (Lung) and Critical Care
- Pulmonary Disease
Research InterestOur laboratory examines apoptotic and cell cycle pathways in cancer and lung disease. We have identified a novel cell cycle protein which regulates cell cycle progression in immune cells and the lung. We are also studying signaling pathways that regulate cancer cell growth and metastasis.
