Dr. Ertosun graduated from Bilkent Üniversitesi (Bilkent University) with a B.S. degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering in 2004. During his undergraduate studies at Bilkent, he conducted research with Prof. Haldun Ozaktas in the fields of optics and signal processing. He received an M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2006, where his research focused on optoelectronic & semiconductor devices, and carbon nanotubes. He received a second M.S. degree in Financ..

My research focuses on understanding how voltage-gated Na+ channels function at the molecular level. Specifically, I use natural products such as aconitine and batrachotoxin as molecular probes to identify key protein interactions that are responsible for the healthy behaviour of the channels. In addition, synthetic modification of the natural products allow us to design molecular tools for applications that range from real-time protein imaging to next generation pain treatments.

Stem Cell Imaging: The ultimate goal of my research is to develop clinically applicable, non-invasive and repeatable imaging tools, which can be used for long-term tracking of transplanted stem cells in bone defects and osteochondral defects. I evaluate novel contrast agents for non-invasive in vivo detection of stem cells with MR imaging in mouse models of bone and cartilage repair, I test smart, activatable MR contrast agents, which can provide non-invasive information about the viability and..

Development of novel gene expression systems for potent, tumor-specific gene therapy of cancer, and to link therapeutic gene expression with imaging reporter gene expression in order to longitudinally track treatment efficacy in living subjects using bioluminescence imaging and positron emission tomography. Emphasis has also been on labeling therapeutic cells with imaging probes or reporter genes to track the fate of these cells in both small animal models and human subjects.
