  Dr. Thompson’s interests include psychosocial treatments for individuals with bipolar disorder and /or other serious mental illnesses; cognitive/behavioral therapy for late-life depression; intervention research with culturally diverse individuals with depression; and psychophysiological research on stress & coping.

  My research focuses on evaluation of the efficacy of various psychosocial intervention programs to reduce distress in family caregivers of older adult relatives with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia. These programs assess impact on a variety of physiological & psychological variables such as: cortisol level, depression, & anxiety. They are conducted with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and lingusitic backgrounds and are funded by the NIA & the Alzheimer's Assn.

  My main current research focuses on examining potential barriers to accessing mental health care for Veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma (MST). Recent findings suggest that there may be gender disparities in access to MST mental health care, and my current research examines potential barriers to care for both men and women Veterans.
