Academic Appointments Clinical Instructor, Pediatrics - General Pediatrics
Clinical Focus- General Pediatrics
Research InterestFrom a very early stage in my career, I saw the influence social, economic, and environmental factors had on health. I also realized early on that these factors disproportionately affected lower income families resulting in poor health outcomes, and this was something I wanted to change. I'm particularly interested in informing policy to create and support healthy environments.

Research InterestPrevention of osteoporosis begins in childhood and adolescence by measures that maximize acquistion of bone mineral during the critical adolescent years. Body mass, calcium nutriture, physical activity, growth and sex steroid hormones, and genetic factors are all thought to be important determinants of bone mass although the relative contribution of each remains controversial.

- Health Service Area
Research InterestMy research has involved the use of new technologies to create different types of patient-doctor transactions. I am also interested in how these new transactions impact clinical care processes. Current work includes the evaluation of a patient portal for children with cystic fibrosis, the use of telemedicine to bring asthma experts into the schools and the attitudes of teens and parents about the use of a secure patient portal for teens.

- Cardiovascular Genetics
Research InterestI am interested in the genetics of autism spectrum and other developmental disorders. In collaboration with the laboratories of Dr. Ricardo Dolmetsch and Joachim Hallmayer I am working to develop induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models of genetic disorders associated with autism and developmental disability.

Research InterestI am interested in graduate medical education -- particularly in understanding how learners learn best and how to optimize graduate medical education given recent work hours changes, increasing patient safety standards which have led to increased supervision, and limited longitudinal exposure with faculty. My interests include: (1) National Nighttime Curriculum Study; (2) Coaching Initiative; (3) Scholarly Concentrations; (4) Handoffs; (5) Remediation; and (6) Residents as Teachers.

Research InterestOur laboratory's goal is to address fundamental and therapeutic questions in immunology using innovative nanotechnological and biophysical approaches to visualize and manipulate cells. Our primary focus is on understanding the molecular controls that balance T cell activation versus tolerance. The ultimate aim of our work is to manipulate T cell signaling pathways to control immunologically-mediated diseases.

Research InterestMy research describes and studies health inequalities and disparities experienced by children with special health care needs. My past work was focused on pediatric health in ethnic communities, Vietnamese and Latino/Hispanic. My current research investigates the differential outcomes of in patients with cystic fibrosis, specifically looking at genotype, ethnicity/race, and environmental exposures.
