Research Interests

My laboratory research interest focusses on the identification of serum markers for tumor hypoxia and for prognosis in patients with head and neck or lung cancers. I am also conducting a number of clinical trials specifically in patients with these tumors. For head and neck cancer, I am conducting a trial using iressa, chemotherapy and re-irradiation in patients with unresectable recurrent tumors, a trial using Evoxac to improve radiation-induced xerostomia in previously treated patients, and 2 trials on serum markers for hypoxia and treatment outcomes. For lung cancer patients, I am conducting a phase II trial with Tirapazamine and conventional treatment in patients with limited stage small cell lung cancers through the Southwest Oncology Group and a trial on using stereotactic radiosurgical ablation for small unresectable or metastatic lung tumors.
