Research Interests
My health services research aims at improving processes and outcomes of mental health care, especially for people suffering from post-traumatic stress.
My primary focus is evaluating VA care for veterans with psychiatric disorders. My second emphasis is using telemedicine technologies to improve care for psychiatric and substance use disorders. My third area is evaluating mental health services in response to disasters and terrorism.
Current studies:
Telephone case monitoring for veterans with PTSD - randomized trial of telephone case management with 1,200 veterans.
Veterans health survey: longitudinal study of treatment utilization and outcomes in over 1,000 PTSD patients.
Virtual Innovation Partnership: Pilot study of clinician training model combining Internet materials with individualized coaching.
Patient Mortality: Two large-scale studies examining predictors of early mortality in patients receiving VA psychiatric and/or substance abuse treatment.
