Research Interests
Dr. Van Dam is Clinical Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Director of Endoscopy at Stanford University Medical Center. His research efforts include developing methods for the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal cancer. His ongoing multidisciplinary research includes the development of real-time, three-dimensional, image-guided, propulsive wireless capsule endoscopy; computer-assisted, potentially sedationless colonoscopy; methods of endoscopic gastric pacing; endoscopic ultrasound-guided pancreatic cyst ablation; and EUS-guided dendritic cell cancer vaccine for gastrointestinal tumors. Dr. Van Dam is an NIH-funded investigator and the author of more than 300 scientific papers, reviews, and abstracts. He directs Stanford’s fellowship in advanced interventional/therapeutic endoscopy. Dr Van Dam is President of the Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology and Treasurer of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
