Scientific Focus

Research Interests

Our current research is focused on development of novel vectors and strategies for gene and cell therapy.

Our primary approach is development of plasmid vectors that integrate at specific sites in the genome. We use the phiC31 phage integrase to mediate sequence-specific genomic integration. We are improving the basic technology, as well as applying it to develop therapies for genetic diseases.

These projects include delivering plasmid DNA vectors to the liver to treat hemophilia. We are also working with mesenchymal stem cells to treat muscular dystrophy.

In a further project, we are employing the sequence-specific integration behavior of phiC31 integrase to create induced pluripotent stem cells for human and mouse.
