Research Interests
I am currently working on projects that attempt to uncover explanations for disparities in surgical outcomes in cancer. My focus has been on institutional factors affecting these disparities, with particular emphasis on hospital quality and performance. Using nationally endorsed process and outcome measures, I am testing the hypothesis that exposure to under resourced hospitals for cancer care may be associated with worse outcomes regardless of individual patient factors. In addition, I am evaluating the potential unintended consequences for safety net hospitals as various pay-for-performance programs gain traction in the state and across the country.
