Abraham Verghese
An infectious disease physician, best-selling author, and popular speaker, Abraham Verghese is the Linda R. Meier and Joan F. Lane Provostial Professor, and Vice Chair for the Theory and Practice of Medicine at Stanford University. He is a strong advocate for the value of the bedside exam and physical diagnosis—skills he sees as waning in an era of increasingly sophisticated medical technology, where the “iPatient” in the computer increasingly diverts physicians' attention from the real patient. At Stanford, he launched the “Stanford Medicine 25" initiative, which is designed to showcase and teach fundamental physical exam skills and their diagnostic benefits.
