Patient Safety is of utmost importance at LPCH. The hospitalists are uniquely involved in our Night Safety rounds conducted each night of the week with the nursing supervisor and supervising resident on call. These rounds are performed on each medical unit in the hospital and provide a forum in which safety concerns can be raised by staff leading to identification of preventable harm. We are also proud to have the Medical Director of Quality Management and the Chief Clinical Patient Safety Officer (Paul Sharek, MD, MPH) as one of our division members.
Dr. Sharek Paul is presently the Director of Quality Improvement for the California Perinatal Quality of Care Collaborative (CPQCC), and serves on the Steering Committee for the Children’s Hospital Solutions for Patient Safety (CHSPS) Network to eliminate serious harm across 81 children’s hospital across the US. He is also a faculty member of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and was the inaugural Paul V. Miles Fellow in Quality Improvement at the American Board of Pediatrics
