Symposia on Diversity in Graduate Education

In an effort to raise awareness within the Biosciences community, the Office of Graduate Education has initiated a Symposium on Improving Diversity in Graduate Education where issues of diversity in graduate education, the experiences of students from diverse backgrounds, and good practices in diversity recruitment and retention are addressed.

Our speakers have been nationally recognized scholars Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, President of the University of Maryland Baltimore County and co-founder of the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program, Dr. David Satcher, former Surgeon General and Director of the National Center for Primary Care at Morehouse College, Dr. Claude Steele, Stanford University Lucie Stern Professor of Social Sciences and Director of the Center of Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences,  Dr. Valerie Young, lifestyle and career coach and founder of Changing Course, and Dr. Tyrone Hayes, Professor of Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley.
