From Ink to Electrons
My name is Kevin Boyd. I've been "the web design dude" for the Stanford
University School of Medicine in the office of Information Resources and
Technology (IRT) since June, 2000. Our group is now known as Web & New Media Services. We build and host the award-wininng sites of the School of Medicine and Stanford Medicine. There are over 350 static sites, tightly integrated with central information such as profiles and clinical trials, creating an efficient, and consistently professional user experience that conveys the unique value and benefits of each group.
I invented the architecture that underlies this Web system, and implemented the designs for versions 1 and 2 of what was called the SoM Format. Over the Summer of 2008, I managed 6 producers through the process of converting School of Medicne sites into the new combined Stanford Medicine format. Over the years, in addition to Web design duties, I have operated and managed the Web Help support desk, and operated the software training program, both in support of a small army of Web Authors. I also hired and supervised student staff when we had funding for them.
Personal sites
In addition to my official work with the School of Medicine, I have
authored a number of pages and sites of my own that may be of interest.
The BoydHouse - My personal WebLog.
Acupressure - I've practiced acupressure self-treatment for many years and
wrote a booklet and later a HyperCard stack on the subject. Not long
ago, I discovered my stack had been turned into a Web page and from
there into a Palm OS application, all without author credit, so I re-claimed
my content and created my own site with new points and illustrations:
www.pointfinder.org I also worked with the estimable Brazilian engineer
Fernando Villanova via email to update and re-release a new and improved
Acupressure & Do-in for Palm OS. Both are yours for free (subject
to copyright, of course).
Broken Hip – In 2001
I fell off my scooter and broke my hip. I wrote about my experiences
and published them, of course! I get a steady trickle of email from
folks who, through unfortunate circumstances, have found it helpful.
Old Home Page – Wrote
it not long after I started here, for the most part, presented here
as a Short History of Me
Frank Tales – My
father, Frank Boyd Sr, took a mini-recorder and spoke at length about
his early years, from which tapes, transcribed and edited are here presented
as Frank Tales.
www.onlineartdirector.com - My professional "brag site."
