Adult Programs
Head & Neck Oncology (tumors)
Drs. Willard Fee and Michael Kaplan offer comprehensive management of tumors of the head and neck region. Some examples include tumors of the pharynx (throat), larynx (voicebox), nose and nasopharynx, mouth and tongue, salivary glands such as the parotid, and endocrine glands such as the thyroid and parathyroid. The emphasis is upon optimizing the chances for cure when preserving function to the greatest degree possible. A multidisciplinary Head & Neck Cancer Tumor Board meets weekly to bring together the expertise of surgeons, radiotherapists, and medical oncologists to recommend optimal treatment plans.
Rhinology (nose and sinus)
Dr. Peter H. Hwang heads the Stanford Sinus Center offering medical and surgical care for all types of problems involving the nose and paranasal sinuses. Fellowship-trained expertise is available in computer guided and revision endoscopic sinus surgery for complicated sinus diseases. Research protocols are exploring uses of topical therapies and other novel strategies to combat chronic sinus disease.
Otology & Neurotology (ear)
Drs. Nikolas Blevins and Robert Jackler care for a wide variety of complicated ear problems. A special emphasis is placed upon sophisticated microsurgery for the management of chronic infection, tumors, and injuries as well as for restoration of hearing and the alleviation of vertigo. Special interests include care of acoustic neuroma, cholesteatoma, stapes surgery for otosclerosis, and facial nerve disorders. Comprehensive Adult Audiology Services are available including the full spectrum of diagnostic capability and rehabilitation with digital hearing aids and other listening assistive devices. The Stanford Cochlear Implant Program offers the possibility of hearing restoration for deaf individuals.
Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Sam P. Most, chief of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Dr. Richard Goode, former president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, offer a full spectrum of facial cosmetic procedures to enhance appearance of the face and neck. Some examples include facelift, eyelid rejuvenation, browlift, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), and chin augmentation, among others. Restoration of facial contour after injury and reconstruction necessitated by removal of tumors in the head and neck region. Special emphasis is place upon minimally invasive approaches such as endoscopic surgery and use of the Thermage system to reduce facial wrinkling.
Laryngology (voice and swallowing)
Dr. Edward Damrose offers comprehensive evaluation and management of hoarseness, aspiration, and swallowing disorders. The Stanford Voice Center specializes in care of the professional voice, phonosurgery for vocal cord nodules and polyps, laser surgery of laryngeal lesions, rehabilitation of the paralyzed vocal cord, Botox for spastic dysphonia, cidofovir for laryngeal papillomas, and management of upper airway obstruction and gastroesophageal reflux disorders (GERD). Voice Therapy services are also offered.

Cranial Base Center
Skull base surgical techniques permit minimally invasive exposure of certain deep seated tumors located beneath the brain thereby facilitating optimal tumor removal while preserving function to the greatest extent possible. The Cranial Base Center is a multidisciplinary program which combines the talents of surgeons from Otolaryngology (neurotology, head & neck oncology, sinus surgery) along with neurosurgery (neuro-oncology and vascular disorders) together with neural monitoring professionals and radiation oncologists to offer comprehensive management of these challenging tumors. The anatomical regions covered include the roof of the nose and paranasal sinuses, the nasopharynx, cavernous sinus, Meckel's cave, clivus, petrous bone, cerebellopontine angle, jugular foramen, foramen magnum, and the upper cervical spine. Examples of tumors managed include meningioma, acoustic neuroma, other cranial nerve schwannomas, glomus jugulare, epidermoid, esthesioneuroblastoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and pituitary adenoma.
Sleep Surgery
Working in collaboration with the renowned Stanford Sleep Center Dr. Richard Goode and other otolaryngologic surgeons offer surgical solutions to patients with severe snoring, obstructed breathing, and sleep apnea.

Audiology (Hearing and Hearing Aids)
Dr. Gerald R. Popelka, Chief of Audiology, manages the Audiology and Hearing Devices Clinic that provides comprehensive Audiology services for a wide variety of complicated hearing and vestibular problems. The state–of–the art facility is staffed by experienced, licensed and certified audiologists. Complete diagnostic services are available that include all behavioral and physiological measures related to the hearing organs including the most advanced auditory evoked potentials and vestibular function measures. Comprehensive dispensing services are available for all hearing aids and assistive listening devices including the most advanced digital hearing aids.
