Combined Approach Treatment of Large Acoustic Neuromas
SEI is conducting a multicenter clinical study on the combined treatment of large vestibular schwannomas (acoustic neuromas). Patients with large tumors (over 2.5 cm) who are candidates for surgical removal are eligible to enroll.
This study is intended to investigate the effect of leaving some of the tumor behind during surgery to reduce the risk of injury to the facial nerve. Treatment will include consideration of using stereotatic radiosurgery (Cyberknife) if the remaining tumor grows.
It is possible that this approach will result in better facial nerve outcomes for patients with large tumors. Interested patients should contact the Stanford Ear Institute to schedule an initial evaluation.
