336A.
This is an advanced four-week clerkship designed to give the senior medical student an intense exposure to the field of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Students will be expected to accomplish the following goals: (1) Assume a high level of patient care responsibility, functioning essentially at an intern level, but with supervision from the residents and faculty. (2) Strengthen clinical and procedural skills. Specifically they will be responsible for pre- and postoperative patient evaluation, and be allowed to perform simple operations, like tracheotomy, or tonsillectomy. (3) Seek out the most complex and acutely ill patients, in order to improve their clinical management skills. (4) Function as an integral member of the Otolaryngology team, more like a resident than a student.
