The researchers led by Dr. Iagaru write that in a selected cohort of patients with breast and prostate cancers, the combined Na[18F]F /[18F]FDG PET/MRI approach can be beneficial on various levels. This can be the case in patients who would need a bone scan for skeletal involvement evaluation (still part of NCCN guidelines), an [18F]FDG PET/CT for visceral involvement evaluation and an MRI as a highly informative anatomical imaging modality. The combined approach could provide similar information as the three modalities aloneĀ  with the advantage of being obtained in a single examination that is more convenient to patients.
