Former Intel chief to deliver Fogarty Lecture on role of technology in health care
STANFORD, Calif. — Andrew Grove, PhD, co-founder and former CEO of Intel Corp. and one of Silicon Valley's legendary innovators, will discuss the role of technology in health care at the annual Thomas J. Fogarty, MD, Lecture at Stanford Nov. 2.
Grove's presentation, "Shift left: Technology and health care," is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Arrillaga Alumni Center, 326 Galvez St. A panel discussion will follow at 7 p.m., featuring Stanford's Victor Fuchs, PhD, the Henry J. Kaiser Professor of Economics and of Health Policy and Research, emeritus; John Haaga, PhD, of the National Institute on Aging; Jeff Rideout, vice president for health care at Cisco Systems Inc.; and Jeffrey Folick, CEO of Elder Health Inc., a Medicare-managed health-care company.
A native of Hungary, Grove fled Europe during the Holocaust and came to the United States, where he obtained a PhD in engineering from UC-Berkeley. He co-founded Intel Corp. in 1968 and played a pivotal role in the development of the semiconductor industry. Based on his extraordinary life and contributions, he has been honored as Time magazine's "Man of the Year" and elected to the National Academy of Engineering, among many other honors. In 2004, he was recognized as "The Most Influential Business Person in the Last 25 Years" by the Wharton School of Business and the "Nightly Business Report."
Grove is currently a lecturer at Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
