MEDIA ADVISORY: U.S. SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES TO SPEAK AT STANFORD - FIRST VISIT TO BAY AREA
STANFORD - U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt will address the nation's top health-care concerns at a Stanford University School of Medicine forum on Monday, May 23 at 9:30 a.m. in the James H. Clark Center Auditorium.
The Secretary’s remarks will focus primarily on health information technology as a way to improve quality, reduce medical errors and decrease health care costs. He will also address medication safety, adverse drug-incident reporting, Medicaid and Medicare.
The School of Medicine forum is Secretary Leavitt's first visit to the San Francisco metropolitan area since President George W. Bush appointed him in January 2005 to lead HHS. A three-term governor of Utah, he had previously served in the Bush administration as the top official at the Environmental Protection Agency, being named the agency's administrator in 2003.
Immediately following his remarks the Secretary will hold a press availability Q&A for the media.
