The global challenge of mental illness: A conversation with Vikram Patel
Vikram Patel, PhD, is one of the most recognized leaders in the global mental health movement. He is a psychiatrist and researcher best known for his work on child development and mental disability in low-resource settings. His goal is to provide better mental health care to low-resource communities by teaching ordinary people to deliver basic psychiatric services. In this podcast, he discusses the enormous challenges and opportunities of global mental health. Patel is a professor of International Mental Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He’s also Co-Director of the Centre for Control of Chronic Conditions at the Public Health Foundation of India.
