Thinking outside of the box: A conversation about mental health with Stanford psychiatrist Amit Etkin
According to National Institute of Mental Health director Thomas Insel, MD, nearly one in five Americans meets the criteria for a diagnosis of psychiatric illness in any given year. It also costs the country $193.2 billion in lost earnings per year. Stanford psychiatrist Amit Etkin, MD, PhD, is seeking to change the current state of treatment for mental health. In this podcast, he discusses the prevalence of mental illness in the United States and how he hopes the work he and his colleagues are doing will lead to improved treatments for depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. Etkin is an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and co-leader of the NeuroCircuit initiative at Stanford University.
