2015 ADVANCE Program Begins

The 3rd Annual Biosciences ADVANCE Summer Institute begins on Monday, July 13. This 8-week program introduces incoming Ph.D. students from diverse backgrounds to the Stanford Biosciences community before the start of  their graduate career in the fall. This summer, we will welcome 23 incoming students to our cohort of fellows. A special thanks to our faculty for agreeing to serve as lab rotation mentors this summer for the ADVANCE Fellows.

ADVANCE fellows engage in activities centered on academic development, professional development, and community building—all of which seek to prepare them for a successful graduate career at Stanford. During the ADVANCE Institute, fellows are able to begin their graduate research early by participating in a full lab rotation.

The lab rotation is a central component of the program as students begin the process of identifying the critical factors that will direct their selection of a primary lab. Additionally, they engage in workshops designed to develop scientific skills, expose them to career opportunities after Stanford, and build community with their peers. We appreciate the collective support of the Biosciences faculty community in making ADVANCE a successful program since its inception in 2013.
