CommunityIn addition to clinical and research training, the Division of Nephrology at Stanford is actively involved in efforts to increase awareness about chronic kidney disease. More than 20 million adults (1 in 9) have chronic kidney disease and many are not aware that they have a serious medical condition. This is a great concern to us and one of our core missions is to educate primary care doctors and the general public about the importance of early detection and intervention of kidney disease. We are also involved in promoting continuing education for kidney doctors, dieticians, social workers and nurses, all of whom care for patients with kidney disease. Our commitment to service reaches throughout the Bay Area with the goal to broaden the awareness nationally and internationally.
