Commencement is a weekend-long series of events that celebrate the achievements of our graduating students. Stanford Medicine events include a brunch followed by the diploma ceremony. Stanford Medicine graduates are also encouraged to participate in the university’s official baccalaureate and commencement ceremonies.

Stanford Baccalaureate

A bookend to students' Opening Convocation held four years earlier, Baccalaureate at Stanford is a multifaith celebratory gathering for graduating seniors, graduate students, and professional students, as well as their families and friends.

It is a student-led commemoration acknowledging the spiritual contribution to the education of the whole person, organized under the auspices of the Office for Religious Life (ORL). In addition to lively music from culturally diverse backgrounds, the program includes readings from different communities and perspectives which represent the wide range of religious traditions are represented within the ORL by over 30 organizations of Stanford Associated Religions (SAR).

The speaker for 2017 will be Children’s Defense Fund president Marian Wright Edelman.

Stanford Medicine Commencement Brunch

Graduating Stanford Medicine students and their guests are invited to join us on the Dean's Lawn for a pre-ceremony brunch. Graduates may bring up to nine additional guests. Registration is required.

Registration to participate is required. 

All graduating students and participating staff and faculty are required to wear a cap and gown to process in the diploma ceremony.

Participating graduates should check-in at 12:00 PM inside their respective LKSC 1st floor rooms. Faculty should check-in at 12:30 PM in the LKSC 1st floor lobby.

Stanford University Commencement

Stanford Medicine faculty and graduates are encouraged to attend Stanford's 126th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, June 18, in Stanford Stadium.  The graduation address will be delivered by California State Supreme Court Justice Mariano-Florentino "Tino" Cuéllar.

No tickets are required.

Gates open at 8:00 AM
Procession begins at 9:30 AM*
Ceremony begins at 10:00 AM
