SUMMA Pre-Health Conference

The goal of the SUMMA Pre-Health Conference, one of the oldest on the west coast, is to increase the diversity of health professions with a focus on underrepresented minority students. Typically drawing 500 students from the Bay Area and California, it is designed to increase the number of minorities accepted into medical schools nationwide.

At this conference, LGBTQ-Meds hosts a panel, “LGBT+ in Medicine”, which showcases the lives of LGBT+ physicians and physicians-in-training. This interactive session not only discusses relevant topics (being OUT on medical school applications and interviews, coping with potential bias from colleagues and patients, and LGBT curricula in medical school), but also provide local premed students a chance to engage with LGBT+ role models in the healthcare profession.
