In 2005, Katie Ransohoff began retrospective clinical studies at Stanford looking at induction therapy after cardiac transplant under the guidance of Dr. Hannah Valantine. She also worked with Dr. Clifford Chin in pediatric echocardiography. In 2006, she began work at the Cardiothoracic Transplantation Laboratory, working closely with Dr. Sonja Schrepfer. While learning at the lab, she entered the Junior Science and Humanities Competition (JSHS) and placed sixth regionally with her paper on bioluminescent imaging techniques for tracking different cardiac adult stem cell therapies long term. Her current focus includes transplant immunology, cardiac repair following ischemic injury, and adult stem cell therapy and biology. She is a member of the Harvard class of 2011, and her pre-med studies will be in the areas of biologic science, psychology/neurophilosophy and health policy with the aim of pursuing a career in academic medicine. Outside of the lab, she is involved with teen health education at Sutter Health through peer teaching, web-based global literacy initiatives, fundraising for childhood end of life care through a sports-service club, and on the Executive Board of the Harvard Science Review. |
