Nov. 29 compassion discussion will feature Google's 'jolly good fellow'

Chade-Meng Tan

On Nov. 29, the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education will sponsor a public event featuring Google pioneer and thought leader Chade-Meng Tan. Meng was one of Google's early engineers, but his current job description as the company's designated "jolly good fellow" is, "Enlighten minds, open hearts, create world peace."

The discussion is part of the center's "Conversations on Compassion" series, and will also feature CCARE director James Doty, MD, clinical professor of neurosurgery.

With the goal of boosting emotional health, well-being and innovation among Google employees, Meng spearheaded a mindfulness-based emotional intelligence course called Search Inside Yourself. His best-selling book of the same name extends these lessons to the world outside of the company. The book offers pragmatic, science-based tools to reduce stress and boost creativity.

Meng is also the founder and president of the Tan Teo Charitable Foundation, and the founder and CEO of the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute.

The conversation is open to the public, but registration is required. The event will take place at 6 p.m. on the Stanford campus; details about the exact location will be provided following registration. Register at: https://www.onlineregistrationcenter.com/register.asp?m=269&c=9.
