Discover the Dreamweaver User Interface

Watch Demo

Watch the demo for a quick introduction to the menus, panels, and buttons of Dreamweaver.

  1. Open any of your site's pages in Dreamweaver
  2. Open documents are represented by tabs
  3. Examine the menus
    • The Help menu contains many helpful items, including an interactive Help browser
  4. The Insert toolbar contains buttons for inserting various objects into your page
    • Multiple collections of buttons are found under the tabs
  5. Examine the page's document window
    • It has 3 view buttons at the top left corner
      • Code (left) shows only the page's HTML code
      • Design (right) shows the browser preview
      • Split (middle) provides a split view; items selected in Preview are also selected in Code and vice-versa
    • The Title field holds the page's browser title
    • Of the buttons at the top of the document window, the most useful is the File Management button; use it to get or put your page while it's open
    • Find the tag selector at the bottom of the document window; it displays the HTML tags that surround the selection in the code; click a tag to select the entire element
    • Also at the bottom of the document window are several controls for zoom and pan
  6. The Properties Inspector displays properties of selected elements and allows you to edit those properties
  7. Several panels appear at the right
    • The most important is the Files pane
    • Buttons allow you to connect, refresh your file view, get, or put your files; right-most Expand/Collapse button opens or closes the split Files panel
  8. Any windows that are closed can be opened using the Window menu; open windows have a checkmark next to them in the menu
