The Stanford Medicine Web format and Dreamweaver

Before You Begin...
The standard for appearance and function of most medical sites is known as the Stanford Medicine format. If your site is in a different format, hosted elsewhere, or you want to request a new site, please contact the Web Help desk via http://webhelp.stanford.edu/.
What's New?
Our Web pages have changed appearance, both in the browser and in Dreamweaver. Most activities and procedures are the same as before. Some have become much simpler.
What to expect from this tutorial
With this training, you will learn how to publish Web pages and sites in one of the two official Stanford Medicine formats using Dreamweaver. Although prepared for Dreamweaver CS3, the methods described should work for version 8 and newer.
This is not basic Dreamweaver training, although it is suitable for beginners. It is closely focused on the specifics of the official formats. Additional training resources can be found on the More Information page.
Who needs Dreamweaver?
Dreamweaver is the Swiss Army knife of Web development tools. It can be used by any Stanford Medicine Web developer or maintainer. It is strongly recommended for any developer or maintainer who needs to manage the structure of sites, including creating or deleting directories.
Site maintainers who only need to edit existing pages or create new pages within an existing site structure may find Contribute easier to learn and use. See the Post-launch Publishing & Maintenance page for a comparison of Dreamweaver and Contribute.
To complete this training, you need:
- A copy of Dreamweaver 8 or newer installed on your computer. See More Information & Resources for details.
- An Stanford Medicine Format site to work on.
- If you want access to an existing live site as an official Web Author, please use the Web Help form to request access to an existing Stanford Medicine site, provide the live site URL, and select the checkbox for Dreamweaver in the form.
- You can also request access to a practice site, a non-public site just for training.
