Troubleshooting Problems
Rollbacks | Keys | Login | Edits | JavaScript
Here are some problems you might encounter with Contribute and what to do.
Aaack! I made a mistake in my update!
No worries. You can "roll back" the page to the previous version. Use the menu sequence File > Roll Back to Previous Version...
A "Roll Back Page" dialog box will provide you information about what versions are available, and options for roll back. Click the "Roll Back" button to proceed.
You can also "roll forward" by re-doing the roll back command and selecting the newer version of your page.
Key Problems
Note: You should only need to load the key file once, unless you change passwords, or change your role on the site.
I can't load the Connection Key file (from Eudora, Outlook or the Desktop)
Sometimes your computer will "forget" what program the key file belongs to. In some situations, you can drag the key file icon to the Contribute icon to load it into the program. You can also go into Contribute and use the menu sequence Edit > My Connections > click the Import button.
Login Problems
I get an error now when I try to log in. I changed my SUNet password recently.
Re-import Connection Key and override existing connection; enter your new password when prompted.
I get an error now when I try to log in. I HAVEN'T changed my SUNet password recently.
WebDAV, Contribute's connection method, now requires secure http, or "https://" For complete details on how to update your connection to make it secure, please see Switching to a Secure Contribute Connection.
Editing Problems
I can't edit a page. Contribute says it's checked out or forbidden.
Dreamweaver and Contribute together use a system called Check-in/Check-out to prevent one user from overwriting another's changes. Contribute will block edit of a file while it's checked out. Try waiting until the other user has checked the file back in, or contact them using the email contact Contribute provides and ask them to check the file back in. You can also contact Web Help for assistance.
Page elements (header, breadcrumbs, left nav) disappear when I click Edit
This is normal for Contribute when pages have server-side includes. Don't worry too much about it, just edit the parts you can. Be sure to validate the edited page in your browser. As long as the elements missing in Contribute are there in the browser, all is well.
I tried updating my left navigation links, but they keep breaking and I can't seem to get them fixed.
There is a bug in the way Contribute analyzes an address entered in the Address (URL) field and interprets it into a document-relative address in the HREF field under the Advanced button in the Link Properties dialog box. When opening the dialog, avoid clicking in the Address (URL) field at all and click directly into the HREF field. You should be able to paste your absolute URL and have it take. Check your link in the browser afterward.
Can I edit secured pages?
Yes, but you will need to have a non-secure landing page for Contribute to make the initial connection. Once you are connected to the site, you should be able to browse into the secure area (assuming you authenticate successfully) and make edits normally.
I've made a terrible mistake and want to take it back.
No worries. You can "roll back" the page to the previous version.
JavaScript problems
I get the following alert when I edit my pages.

This doesn't necessarily mean there's a JavaScript problem with the page. If you're nervous, check it in Internet Explorer, where if you see an alert there might actually be a problem. Otherwise click Yes and ignore these.
I can't delete or change this yellow icon. ![]()
This is a JavaScript item. They cannot be edited or deleted in Contribute. Contact Web Help if you need assistance.
